The congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church in the Heart of Lubbock Neighborhood installed Christianna Nemec as a Deaconess on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Christianna is the wife of Pastor Charles Nemec and the daughter of Pastor Tom Eckstein and his wife, Andrea.
Christianna was born in Bismarck, North Dakota and spent the early part of her childhood in St. Louis. She grew up in Jamestown, North Dakota. Christianna and Charles were married on October 31, 2020. They are the parents of two children who have fallen asleep in Christ before birth, Charles Simeon Nemec (February 2021) and Noel Sabbath Nemec (October 2024).
The Nemecs came to Lubbock for the calling and ordaining of Charles at Redeemer in June of 2022.
Christianna completed her Master of Arts in Deaconess Studies from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, in the spring of 2023. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University, Saint Paul, with a major in Theology and minor in Music.
So far, her volunteer work in Lubbock has included the sorting of donations for a local pregnancy resource center. It has also included helping Redeemer’s quilting group to create quilts for donation to those in nursing homes and foster care as well as making toys for children in foster care. Her duties with Redeemer will include visits to persons who are homebound or hospitalized. She will also check on and connect with members who have not been active or attending worship services along with supporting individuals during times of grief or loss and participate in other forms of community care directed by the Board of Elders. She recently joined the Board of Directors for the Lutheran Student Center in Lubbock.
“As a deaconess, I hope to help the Christian congregation function as a family built on the love, forgiveness, and mercy of Christ,” Christianna said. “I have an interest in caring for the vulnerable through pro-life work. I want to be able to support fearful mothers and give them the love, means, skills, and encouragement that they need to confidently choose life for their babies. I want to help the congregation find ways to show mercy mothers and children who are in need.”
The congregation voted unanimously to call Christianna and welcomes her with the highest level of love and respect. We are blessed beyond measure to have her, and we invite all Christians, especially those in the Lubbock area, to pray for Christianna that her service would be a long-lasting reflection of the love and righteousness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
